I don’t know about where you are, but things have gotten v v blustery around here lately. This morning I took Harry out in a tshirt, leggings, and Josh’s Moncler puffer vest (my outerwear is no longer happening) and I was frozen to the core. The mind sometimes takes us to places we don’t expect, and I suddenly had the word “Vermont” floating across the invisible screen as I silently willed the dog to hurry up and do his business.
There might be a few more pretty weekends with puffy clouds and blue skies and temperatures in the 50s and 60s, but as we nosedive toward winter, I thought we’d take this Fashion Friday to chat rehearsal dinner dresses. You know I love a little white dress like no other, but at this time of year it is so fun to play with different textures, patterns, and colors.
If you must go white, I strongly advice against chiffon or anything too flimsy — even if you’re inside with the heat cranked up, it just spells summer. Instead, reach for ivory or bone in lush silks, velvets, or sturdy lace. Or, have some fun with the darker side of bridal style. It’s your party — and you’ll wear what you want to.
A sexy little number in bittersweet could be the perfect antidote to your virginal white gown for the next day. I’m in awe of this twist-front jersey stunner by Halston Heritage, as it fits and flatters for the perfect amount of sexy without going so over-the-top that the older generation will be offended. $295, Bloomingdales.
If your sensibility lends toward white, we are kindred spirits. I had over 20 white dresses stockpiled the spring and summer leading up to my wedding so I could wear them for all sorts of events. Find something with sleeves that pairs well with a boot or sensible wintry evening shoe. I am enamored of this Marchesa Voyage embroidered swing dress that features a baroque-inspired pattern and just enough hippie-dippieness to make you feel like a burst of sunshine despite whatever the weather is doing. $650, ShopBop.
